Sunshine Coast closure makes front page news

A Sunshine Coast community centre working with the homeless has expressed grave concerns about the complete cut of funding to the local tenant advice service.  Community centre workers fear the loss of the centre will leave people more vulnerable.

A Tenants’ Union spokesperson said the loss of funding to the local tenant advice service will not achieve the goverhment’s objective of reducing demand for social housing because most people assisted are living in the private rental market.  Without that assistance a significant number would fall out of the private rental market and require social housing.

The Sunshine Coast tenant advice service funding has been cut a month before the other 22 services affected by the government’s decision and despite the fact the lion’s share of the funding arises from the interest made on tenants’ bonds.
